Hmm, looks like the Wii Update didn't fix the problem, but made it worse. I really can't tell why I'm constantly getting disconnected like this. I've gotten pushed down to about 6100. However, it looks like a lot of other people are feeling this too, as I'm not seeing very many high VRs.

You know the deal here. I play for a bit, then I get the 91010 error. Not everybody gets this, but some people seem to. I'm still fairly sure it's something to do with the game, as I don't get disconnected like this for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and certainly not Pokémon Battle Revolution.
And so...I change the router the Wii runs on. There's another router in this neighborhood, a Linksys router that doesn't use a password. It's used sometimes for when we somehow lose connection to the internet, but I decided to try this to see if it is our router's fault. Linksys routers work very well with the Wii, and if it is our router's fault, the races done using the Linksys router should be smooth and uninterrupted.
We use an Actiontec GT704-WG, by the way. I looked it up and found that it's really not that professional of a router company, and the Nintendo tech support site says it isn't a recommended router. That's why I'm still at least a bit suspicious of this router I use.

Here's a race using the Linksys router. The connection is weak, causing people to warp around and thus throwing off my aim, but strong enough for me to get to the end of the race. The people up front aren't going to relinquish their spots very easily, and it looks like a relatively obstacle-free course like this keeps the race close enough that you really can't tell where you'll place. Unless you're 4th.

Okay, so it IS the game. I get the 91010 error anyway when I use the Linksys router. So it isn't time for me to get a better router.
And so, I change it back to the router at this house. I'm going to go to bed now, but after this, I plan to relocate the Wii somewhere else, as I've come up with a possible way to reduce (but not eliminate) the disconnection problems I've had altogether. incase you're either:
a. trying to follow along, but the DMZ host thing just won't work for you. or
b. trying to follow along with another internet service provider, but the DMZ host just isn't working for you. or
c. you just don't wanna mess with the DMZ host all together.
i have provided 2 alternative methods that MAY open your NAT in the video description. The instructions to go along with them, are, as stated before, for the Verizon Fios layout I have.

The Three Basic Options for Opening Your NAT
(The following instructions are for Verizon Fios SPECIFICALLY, and even more specifically the MI424WR Actiontec Router. But if you have enough computer know-how to follow along with a different internet provider, be my guest)
The first thing you need to do for any of these, is to login to your router's settings page by using your default gateway/IP Address as the url in your internet broswer.
(common defaults)
User Name: admin
Password: password, password1, p@ssword, or p@ssword1
Option 1: DMZ (Exposed) Host (This Video)
Firewall Settings►DMZ Host►enter your Xbox's IP Address in the spaces available, check off the box next to "DMZ Host IP Address" and hit apply.
Option 2: UPnP (Universal Plug and Play)
Advanced►Universal Plug and Play►check off the box next to "Enable Automatic Cleanup of Old Unused UPnP Services" and hit apply.
If your router doesn't already have this option, you might be able to install a newer version of your router's firmware that has the Universal Plug and Play feature.
Advanced►Firmware Upgrade►Force Upgrade
Option 3: Port Forwarding
Firewall Settings►Port Forwarding►set three port forwarding rules for the following three ports, using your Xbox's IP Address -
UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074
(see www.portforward.com/routers.htm for more info on how to do this)

SIMPLIFIED DIRECTIONS (in 3 easy steps!):
1. Put your default gateway/IP address into your internet browser, then login to the site.
(common defaults)
User Name: admin
Password: password, p@ssword, or p@ssword1
2. Navigate your way to the DMZ Host and input your xbox 360's specific IP address there.
Firewall Settings►DMZ Host►enter the xbox's IP Address
3. Check off the little box next to "DMZ Host IP Address" and hit apply. Now do an Xbox LIVE Connection Test, and your NAT should be open.
if you don't understand these simplified directions, then just watch/skim the video until you find what you're looking for.
