Cuban revolutionary, Ernesto Che Guevara is, in fact, part Irish and part Basque! While Che was a native Argentine, historical archives indicate that his great-grandmother, Anna Isabel Lynch was born in County Galway, Ireland. Legend has it that Lynch later migrated to South America where she met husband and Basque descendant, Guevara. Together they produced a child named Ernesto, who would one day become Che's father. Hence, in 1928, Ernesto 'Che' Guevara was born. Roughly four decades later, Ernesto found himself accounting for his son's rebellious behaviour. His response to Che's decision to join the Cuban guerrilla movement was thus: The first thing to note is that in my son's veins flows the blood of the Irish rebels. On March 13,1965 Che returned home to his Irish roots during a lay-over between Prague and Cuba. "Breogán, son of Brath, is a mythical Celtic king from Galicia. Multiple accounts exist about him, but he is seen as the mythological father of the Galician nation. His sons are Ith and Bile (Belenus). Galicia is sometimes described poetically as the home of Breogán or in Galician language, "fogar de Breogan." it is mentioned that way in Galicia's anthem. According to Gaelic legend embodied in the 11th-century compilation Lebor Gabála Érenn, the "Book of Conquests", King Breogán, the founding father of the Galician Celtic nation, constructed in Brigantium (ancient celtic town, currently known as A Coruña) a massive tower of such a grand height that his sons Ith and Bile, could see a distant green shore from its top. The glimpse of that distant green land lured them to sail north to Ireland. There, they were received by the Tuatha Dé Danann (ancient tribe who occupied Ireland before the actual Gaelic celts). Suddenly Breogán got ambushed by the Tuatha Dé Danann, and they managed to kill one of Breogan's sons, Ith. Decades after, Míl Espáne, Breogán's grandson, took vengeance upon the Tuatha Dé Danann and embraced a full masive invasion towards Ireland in order to conquer it. This tale is mostly described in the last chapter of the Lebor Gabála Érenn (Book of the takings of Ireland), that explains about the Milesians (a reference to the Galician people as the sons of Míl Espáine). A similar story about a monk who saw a green island from the top of the tower of Brigantia was written in the 9th or 10th century in Galicia. The manuscript is called Trezenzonii de Solistitionis Insula Magna (Monk Trezenzon and the Big Island). A colossal statue of Breogán has been erected near the Tower of Hercules." Breogán (Breogam), tido como um grande guerreiro e líder na mitologia celta, é uma personagem muito importante na na Galiza, e é também creditado pela construção de uma mítica torre muito alta (localizada por alguns autores na região de Trás-os-Montes[2], enquanto outros a localizam na região da Corunha) e que pode ou não ter conexão com a famosa Torre de Hércules. Outros relatos o citam como o fundador da cidade de Brigantium (a actual Corunha) e apontam seu nome como a origem do nome da região de Bragança (Brigantia)[3]. O mito exposto no Livro das Invasões diz que o Rei Breogam do Povo de Míl levantou uma alta torre defensiva (na tese, a chamada ou uma versão prévia da Torre de Hércules) tão alta que um dos seus filhos viu Irlanda desde a cima. Em outra versão, Ith, a pessoa a avistar a terra irlandesa, seria tio de Míle Espáine[4]. A promessa de mais uma terra verde, de rara beleza, por conquistar levou-o a fazer a viagem ao norte que terminou com a colonização da Irlanda. Entre outras fontes, a lenda está parcialmente registada no supracitado Lebor Gabála Érenn, livro das invasões irlandês, onde se conta uma mítica viagem marítima desde o outro lado do mar no que chegaram os Milêsios, os filhos de Mile Espáine, que seriam os primeiros habitantes da ilha. Para os galegos, Breogam é o pai fundador da Galiza, aliás forma parte do hino oficial do país. De facto, a palavra "Galiza" não aparece no hino (um poema de Eduardo Pondal chamado "Os Pinheiros"), senão com a expressão "Nazón de Breogán" ("Nação de Breogam"), o que contribui enormemente à popularização da personagem."
