roots of blues -- kokomo arnold „大pa got drunk"

3:06
„Grandpa Got Drunk" (J. Arnold) Recorded: Chicago,May 7, 1937 Kokomo Arnold (vcl) (g) Kokomo Arnold (15 February 1901 — 8 November 1968) was an American blues musician. Born James Arnold in Lovejoy's Station, Georgia, Arnold received his nickname in 1934 after releasing "Old Original Kokomo Blues" for the Decca label; it was a cover of the Scrapper Blackwell blues song about the Kokomo brand of coffee. A left-handed slide guitarist, his intense slide style of playing and rapid-fire vocal style set him apart from his contemporaries. Having learned the basics of the guitar from his cousin, John Wiggs, Arnold began playing in the early 1920s as a sideline while he worked as a farmhand in Buffalo, New York, and as a steelworker in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1929 he moved to Chicago and set up a bootlegging business, an activity he continued throughout Prohibition. In 1930 Arnold moved south briefly, and made his first recordings, "Rainy Night Blues" and "Paddlin' Madeline Blues", under the name Gitfiddle Jim for the Victor label in Memphis, Tennessee. He soon moved back to the bootlegging center of Chicago, though he was forced to make a living as a musician after the ratification of the Twenty-first Amendment to the United States Constitution ending Prohibition in 1933. Kansas Joe McCoy heard him and introduced him to Mayo Williams who was producing records for Decca[2]. From his first recording for Decca on 10 September 1934 until his last on 12 May 1938, Arnold made eighty-eight sides, seven of which remain lost. Along with Peetie Wheatstraw and Bumble Bee Slim, he was a dominant figure in Chicago blues circles. His major influence upon modern music is, along with Peetie Wheatstraw, upon the seminal delta blues artist Robert Johnson, a musical contemporary. Johnson turned "Old Original Kokomo Blues" into "Sweet Home Chicago", while another Arnold song, "Sagefield Woman Blues", introduced the terminology "dust my broom", which Johnson used as a song title himself. Arnold's "Milk Cow Blues" was covered by Aerosmith on their 1977 album, Draw the Line; and became "Milk Cow Blues Boogie", as performed by Elvis Presley. In 1938 Arnold left the music industry and began to work in a Chicago factory. Rediscovered by blues researchers in 1962, he showed no enthusiasm for returning to music to take advantage of the new explosion of interest in the blues among young white audiences. He died of a heart attack in Chicago at the age of sixty-seven in 1968, and was buried in the Burr Oak Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois

大pa (original song)

2:07
Original Song, Country This is a song that I thought my own Grandson might write about me..someday... I guess Im thinking a best case scenario Lyrics Hey Now, Grandpa used to set out on the front porch in his swing And he played guitar, most every chance he could Well our only saving grace was Gramps was too damn old to sing And as for that guitar thing, Well he just wasnt any good But his friends would gather around and yell, Hey Brother beat that box And one night it got so crazy that somebody called the cops They said they could not arrest him, I said Aint that just my luck Cause it was fairly common knowledge around our town that Grandpa sucked Now one night while out a driving, Grandpa started feeling dim So we rushed him to the doctor for a cure He said, "Give it to me straight Doc, will I play guitar again"? The Doc said, "I really wasnt aware of the fact you had that ability before" We gathered around his door as Grandpa strummed that guitar slow Preparing for the passing of a man that we loved so And we wept in silent sorrow, when the song came to an end But we cried a whole lot harder, when it started up again FINALE Grandpa started feeling better, he had made it past the worst His priorities had changed now and his music must come first So he started taking lessons, disregarding all our groans Now he's dating Super Models and he's opening for the Stones.

farmer's blues

3:25
Greetings friends .... I'm Michael from a small town just outside of Waco Texas, called China Springs. We lived out on what was called the Bend of the Bosque. A small town and small school with a graduating class of oh, about 45. We rode the school bus everyday, unless we could catch a ride with my brother who was going to the same school anyway if we gave him 50 cents for gas. Though I did not get to graduate with that class, I still think of it as my school home. I look forward to the next reunion. Every summer growing up I spent at my Grandparents who had a farm in McGregor. They usually had about 40 head of cattle and farmed about 300 acres, mostly growing Oats, Maze, Cotton and Corn. Yes, my fondest memories are the ones made while following my Grandpa around everywhere he went and the special attention you could always count on from your Granny. One thing I know for sure is that they loved their Grandchildren. Well, it was those memories that actually shaped me and my life and I feel made me the man I am today. I believe this greatly influenced my music as well as I have a tendency to go heavy into the country ballads especially if it has anything to do with farming or the cowboy life. Though they have passed on I believe they would be proud of me. I have a great job, I have 3 wonderful and beautiful children, a lovely beautiful wife and have had the opportunity to see so much of the world we live so I have grown to really appreciate what I have here. Some places I've visited to mention a few are Hong Kong China, Singapore, Jakarta Indonesia, Cairo Egypt, Dubai U.A.E., Paris France, London England, Frankfurt Germany, Zurich Switzerland, Malabo Equatorial Guinea (West Africa), Madrid Spain, Lima Peru, Cali Colombia, A lot of Mexico and Louisiana... ha ha.. I love to play rhythm guitar and sing Country Music... I'm a little to the right of Country and a little to the left of Bluegrass... I love writing and have a few originals that are soon to be recorded.. Thanks for stopping by, feel free to look around and stay as long as you like..Take care and God bless...
