Issued in Canada May 1977 on GRT / Daffodil 1216-1075, and in the US on Capitol 4412. Toronto group Klaatu began as a studio project in which John Woloschuk and Dee Long were given free reign to record with engineer Terry Brown at Toronto Sound, during times when the studio was not booked. The plan was for Brown to develop the project with his partner Doug Riley, and be an unofficial member of the band. They began on January 1, 1973 and spent many months recording "Anus Of Uranus" and "Sub-Rosa Subway." Both Woloschuk and Long were multi-instrumentalists, but neither of them could play drums, so they hired famed studio drummer Whitey Glan, who appears on those tracks, as well as "Dr. Marvello" and "For You Girl" (which is a non-LP B-side). Realizing they needed a full-time drummer to continue, they recruited old friend and sometime bandmate Terry Draper in late 1974, whose first recording with them was on "California Jam." Work continued on their project, with the four tracks having been issued on two singles by GRT / Daffodil. Label manager Frank Davies also got them released in the US on Island Records, but they made no impact there. Then Canadian radio programmers began to complain that their records didn't sound "Canadian." This didn't bother the group; they carried on regardless. Frank Davies scored them a deal sight unseen with Capitol in the US - unseen because the group was adamant about not wanting to tour, appear in public, do interviews, be photographed, or even identified - preferring to let the music speak for itself. This worked both for and against them. Their album, entitled "3:47 EST," completed after three years' work, was released in 1976. The album didn't do too well sales-wise, and the band had already recorded and submitted their second album, when some of that serendipity that only happens once in a lifetime, occurred. Steve Smith, of the Providence (RI) Journal, declared in print that Klaatu was the official reunion of The Beatles. Immediately, interest in "3:47 EST" picked up, and gradually became a mania, as people flooded request lines at radio stations, wanting to hear more of this anonymous group, based upon the Beatles rumor. The insanity spread to Canada and Australia, and Capitol took notice as multiple pressing runs sold out. They delayed the release of the second LP to take advantage of the heat generated by the group. "Calling Occupants" was released as an edit in which 3:50 were removed from the LP version. It was released in the States at the end of March 1977, reaching only #62. It entered the RPM 100 on May 13, 1977 and reached #45 on June 18th. In September 1977, a cover of the song was issued by none other than The Carpenters, who took it to #32. This is a music video I made by compiling some CGI animations I rendered in 3D Studio Max. It's an early attempt and some of the animations are a little rough, but I think It's still fun. Some of the models were made by me, others are from various 3D internet sites. The song is "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" by a Canadian group named Klaatu. Enjoy!

interplanetary pizza

Interplanetary Pizza was a collaborative project at the School of the Museum Of Fine Arts Boston in 2001. A lot of people put a lot of effort in to this animated short. Unfortunately the other students blew it off and never finished the middle portions of the project. Thus we made the best of what we had. I animated the hand to had fights, modeled the interior of the the pirate ship and the Star Trek inspired trucks, and did the video editing. I was also the TA for the class.

Один из первых советских мультфильмов. Первоначально он создавался как анимационная заставка к первому советскому фантастическому фильму "Аэлита". Но в фильм так и вошел. Вышел на экраны как самостоятельное произведение. Мультфильм повествует о том, как мозолистая рука пролетариата настигнет буржуев даже в космосе.
