AFTER VIEWING PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO LEAVE A CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENT! THANKS! Conclusion - Autistic Tantrums or as they are popularly called Meltdowns can be show stealers if neurotypicals fall into their trap. Tantrums are trying to tell you that the autistic person lacks the understanding to build a scripted solution to a problem they are experiencing. So many well meaning neurotypicals get so caught up in the art and science of autitistic tantrum management that they often forget about the autistic child who needs their help. I use the autistic werewolf as a teaching tool. Just as in fantasy a werewolf is not an afflicted person's true nature the tantrum or meltdown does not define an autistic persons true nature. So many caregivers get duped into responding to the tantrum as if it is the autistic persons true nature to be violent angry and antisocial when nothing could be further from the truth. The tantrum or meltdown part of an autistics nature is like a werewolf that comes out only when a convergence of sensory overload events behave like a full moon calling it from its resting place. Oh for sure a autistics tantrums are like the sudden appearance of a werewolf as both are violent, angry, antisocial and as such can not be missed when in full reversion. However just as you would not want to be stereotypiced by a part of yourself that appears only some times. Autistics do not want their entire identity as autistic beings lumped into the fact that when we are overloaded we revert to using primal coping systems that make most neurotypicals extremely uncomfortable. I am hoping that if neurotypicals can learn to sense the autistic meltdown or tantrum as a temporary werewolf like reversion the tantrum will shrink from center stage. Autistic primal reversion or tantrums are a symptom of an underlying sensory overload or logic \ literal conflicts that the autistic person needs help in resolving. Tantrums like werewolves come, go and don't care. The autistic child or adult they care and respond to this world and its people. Autistic children and adults need your guidance, your understanding, your patience and sometimes your absence so they can work out solutions to sensory overload and anger management issues. Center stage rightly belongs to the autistic child not the tantrum and thats the message of this 2 video set.
