Boomkat is made up of brother and sister duo Kellin and Taryn Manning. With the help of their sound that could best be described as slick and radio ready that included elements of trip-hop, dancable hip-hop, urban soul, and pop, and not to mention the influence of Taryn position as an up-and-coming actress, Boomkat seize of the spotlight was about to take place.
Born to musical parents, both Kellin and Taryn were breaking into show business in their own way. Kellin was playing drums in a rock band while Taryn was taking dance lessons and auditioning for movies in Hollywood. After an unsucessful try at college, Kellin moved to California be near his mother and sister. However, day jobs did not interest him as much as the sample-driven tracks and primitive beats he convinced his sister to rap or sing over. The duo was able to perfect their sound, even as Taryn's acting career started to take off. She appeared in shows like "Ally McBeal" and the hit movie "8 Mile," starring Eminem. But she was also able to show her band to such talents as David E. Kelly and Eminem. A few demos fell through, but there was plenty of positive feedback from a showcase at the Mint in Hollywood. This led Dreamworks creative executive erstwhile band bassist to Boomkat. He was so impressed with Taryn's vocals and Kellin's street-smart beats that he signed the duo to Dreamworks almost immediately.
In April of 2003, Boomkat entered the studio with Pro Tools whiz Martin Padler, and emerged with their debut album "Boomkatalog One." The duo gained exposure with Kiss FM's endorsement of the lead single "The Wreckoning," plus the song "Wasting My Time" from the "8 Mile" soundtrack. But even with the success of their first song, it did little to help when their album came out. It debuted at #88 on the charts, and didn't do that much better afterwards. This is the second part of Episode 9 of Tokyo Mew Mew in Korean. Their dub is called Berry Berry Mew Mew.
Berry decides to come up with a plan, with the other Mew Mews, to get Mint's brother to see Mint's ballet performance(at the cost of her missing her date with Min'u XD). But when it seems that all is lost, he decides to take a break from his busy schedule to see his sister.
Most of the original background music is kept except when there's an insert song. Either they're replaced with music from the TMM Original Soundtrack or replaced with an insert song of their own.
Some of the names have been changed as well. Here's a list:
