There was a relatively short time in the realm of techno music where tracks were built on drums and drums only.... I have a few examples of these rare "strictly rhythm" tracks and this is one of them - "Spastik" that is. And holy shit is it ever cool!.... Richie Hawtin legitimately can claim some rights to being called the pioneering innovator of many of techno's innovations..... In "Spastik" he used a trick that became horribly over-used later in the evolution of techno but he seemed to do it first (that I heard anyway).....The trick is the reverent "mid-range sweep". During the recording of the track he slowly manipulates the "sweepable mids" on his mixer which makes the sound thus "tweeked", which was at one time the backbone of techno.....Then out of the blue comes a POUNDING 808 kickdrum that will set you back in your seats or blow your eardrums sideways.....PURE MENTAL TRACK....and hence the start of the minimal movement in my eyes.....enjoy Label: NovaMute Catalog#: 12 NoMu 28 Format: Vinyl, 12" Country: UK Released: 04 Oct 1993 Genre: Electronic Style: Breakbeat, Techno Credits: Mastered By - Nilz* Written-by [Music] - Richie Hawtin

When this was first released, the listeners of techno called this music "progressive techno". Now as time goes on some people would put this style of music into the "trance" genre . A work of art to say the least, this album really turned my head when I first heard it. The production has amazing qualites, to me amongst some of the best ever in electronica / techno. Juno Reactor later achieved a great deal of notoriety when his work was included in the Mortal Kombat soundtrack in 1996, but by then the Juno Reactor formula had changed. This album is so much better than what most people have heard by Ben Watkins. I strongly recommend giving this one a listen because of all the hundreds of releases I've heard since by hundreds of others, none have ever sounded so fresh, ahead of its time to say the least. This was a monumental work of art. This being the second album by the artist Richie Hawtin aka PLASTIKMAN....."MUSIK", released back in '94 and played today WILL stand up to any of the acts/producers that are around...it must be stated that much of the percussion on this album is not the venerable and revered (and too-often assumedly associated with Richie Hawtin) TR 909, it is in fact the all-analog-voiced but computer-controlled TR 808. When used together, these machines (especially in the capable hands of Richie Hawtin) can create out of this world sounds and DO!....to me this is the album that set yet another standard in musical history yet in saying that there are alot more deep trippy sounds used in the production....it to me is floorless to say the least and takes the audience on a wild ride deeper and deeper into a place that you dont ever want to come back from....amazing production and thought has gone into this album....please sit back and enjoy the journey Label: NovaMute Catalog#: NoMu 37 Format: 2 x Vinyl, 12" Country: UK Released: 07 Nov 1994 Genre: Electronic Style: Techno, Downtempo, Minimal, Acid

Unlike most of the rest of the Nova mute catalogue, as this is a bit of a raving oldskool hardcore track, with classic hoover noises and "hands in the air" piano breaks.
