Imperium Romanum is the sequel to "Glory of the Roman Empire". Imperium Romanum is set in the time-honored Roman Empire and players will marvel in the incredible attention to detail when working on a strategy to build a well organized, prosperous and commanding settlement. As governor of a Roman province, the fortune very much lies in the players own hands. Imperium Romanum is packed with a variety of new features to enhance the game-play such as a complete overhaul of the graphic engine, a mass of authentic historical buildings such as the world famous Circus Maximus or Gladiator schools. The game allows the player to construct fortifications, towers, gates and bridges, all of which must be paid for with the new currency which has been implemented into Imperium Romanum for a challenging, enjoyable, yet authentic quest to rule the World.

Wir stehen auf dem Kapitolhuegel und blicken auf die Senke zwischen den Huegeln Kapitol, Palatin und Esquilin. Einst war hier ein Sumpfgebiet, das als Begräbnisstätte genutzt wurde. Um 600 v. Chr. haben die Siedler der umliegenden Huegel es mit einem Entwaesserungssystem, der Cloaca Maxima, trockengelegt und als zentralen Mittelpunkt des Gemeinwesens bebaut.
Wir stiegen vom Kapitolhügel hinab und schlenderten vorbei am Saturn-Tempel durch den Triumphbogen des Septimius Servus hindurch, die Via Scala entlang bis zum Triumphbogen des Titus. Originally the area of the Forum was humid and covered in grass, as it was not suitable for construction. This changed in the 7th century with the construction of the Cloaca Maxima. This sewer system was based on a natural stream, which was enclosed and covered to drain the area, a sign that the settlements on the Palatine Hill was spreading into the valley. Gradually more public buildings were build around the square, thus forming a natural centre for the rapidly growing town. In republican times the construction on the Forum continued, with a series of basilicas, notably the Basilica Sempronia and the Basilica Aemilia.
The current image of the Forum Romanum is a result of the changes made by Julius Caesar as pontifex maximus and dictator, which included the construction of the Basilica Julia where the Basilica Sempronia stood, the building of a new Curia and the renovation of the Rostra, the speakers platform. Caesar didn't see all his plans realised before his death, but most was finished by his successor Augustus, including the Temple of Divus Julius, dedicated to Caesar deified.
In imperial times the importance of the Forum as a political centre diminished, but it remained a centre of commerce and religious life. Construction and restoration continued, but now mostly in the form of honorary monuments, such as the Arch of Augustus, the Arch of Titus and the Arch of Septimius Severus.
The Column of Phocas was the last monument to be erected in the Forum in 608 CE, but at this time the area was already half in ruin.
The Forum Romanum suffered damage and destruction repeatedly. When political strife in republican times deteriorated into violence, the Forum would regularly be the scene of fierce fights between rivalling factions, often followed by destructive fires. Later the Forum suffered destruction and pillage at the hands of invaders. Most of the buildings on the Forum was destroyed completely in 410 CE, when the Ostrogoths of Alaric sacked the town.
After the fall of the empire in the west, the area was abandoned. A few buildings were converted into churches, including the Curia, the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina and the Temple of Divus Romulus; the rest was left to shepherds and their animals, to the extent that the popular name of the area became Campo Vaccino, the cattle field.
Archaeological excavations began in 18th century, but the site have only been excavated systematically in the 20th century. Many of the later additions to buildings and monuments have now been removed and the original street level has been restored over large parts of the Forum.
The site of the Forum Romanum is still subject to excavations, and several parts of the Forum cannot be visited, but the whole area have the status of an archaeological site, open to visitors.

...in nahezu jeder römischen Stadt gab es ein Forum als Zentrum des politischen, wirtschaftlichen, kulturellen und religiösen Lebens. Der älteste derartige Platz war das Forum Romanum, also das Forum in Rom, das ein Spiegel der gesamten römischen Geschichte ist und als Zentrum der politischen Macht in der Stadt Rom und dem römischen Reich gelten muss.

Der Ort, der über Jahrhunderte hinweg der Mittelpunkt der römischen - und damit der bekannten - Welt war: Das Forum Romanum. Auf dem Forum wurde zu Zeiten der Republik im Senat große Politik gemacht, von hier aus wurde das Imperium erobert, hier befanden sich die ältesten und ehrwürdigsten Tempel der Stadt. Doch auch das alltägliche Leben hatte auf dem Forum Romanum einen Mittelpunkt: Es wurden Geschäfte gemacht und allerhand feilgeboten, in den Basilicae tagten die Gerichte und die Müßiggänger der antiken Großstadt hatten in den großen Säulenhallen einen bevorzugten Aufenthaltsort. Nach dem Zusammenbruch des Römischen Reichs geriet das Forum Romanum in Vergessenheit und wurde mehr Legende als Erinnerung. Es trug zeitweilig den Namen Kuhweide. Doch erst in der Renaissance gingen die meisten Bauwerke durch Plünderung als Steinbruch unter anderem auch für den Petersdom verloren.

Mit dem wieder erwachenden Interesse an der Antike während der Renaissance kehrt das Forum wieder mehr ins Bewusstsein der Menschen zurück; erst ab Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts wurden erste Ausgrabungen unternommen.
Der Romulus Tempel ...er wurde zwischen dem Tempel des Antoninus Pius, der Faustina und der Maxentiusbasilika errichtet. Der Ziegelrundbau, seine Kuppel und seine beiden Seitenräume, die jeweils über einen eigenen Eingang und eine eigene Apsis verfügen, wurde im 6. Jahrhundert zur Kirche umgebaut und ist deshalb gut erhalten. An seinem Haupteingang befinden sich noch immer die zwei Porphyrsäulen. Der Tempel ist durch eine Bronzetür verschlossen, auch ein Original aus der Antike, deren Schloss angeblich immer noch funktioniert. ( Pause - Ende Teil 1 )
Der Mythos besagt, dass an dieser Stelle die in wilder Flucht befindlichen Truppen des Romulus im Kampf gegen die Sabiner kehrt gemacht und triumphiert hatten, nachdem dieser sich flehend an Iupiter gewandt hatte.
Die Curie... sie war der Versammlungsort des Senats. Hier war die Macht Roms vertreten, hier wurden Gesetze erlassen und Intrigen gesponnen. Die Curie bildete zusammen mit dem Comitium und den Rostra den politischen Schwerpunkt des Forums. Die Architektur dieses Gebäudes vervielfacht die Lautstärke der Gespräche, so konnten innerhalb des Gebäudes keine geheimen Absprachen mehr unter den Senatoren stattfinden. Umgestaltet wurde das Gebäude vor allem durch Gaius Iulius Caesar und Augustus. Die Nutzung als Kirche ab dem 7. Jahrhundert erklärt den hervorragenden heutigen Erhaltungszustand.
