The UN has stopped all flights in and out of Libya and, during a seven hour wait to board the ferry to Malta, tempers flare. Despite these hardships Libya prospers. A Libyan official speaks frankly about his leader and admits mistakes have been made. He expresses regret for Libya's backing of the IRA and says it was revenge for Britain's part in the 1986 raid on Tripoli. We visit Qadhafi's bombed house - an eerie shrine to his daughter who died in that attack. Human rights abuses are detailed by a former university lecturer in Libya. He talks of lynchings in the university grounds. This film challenges the West's view of Libya and looks at Qadhafi's struggles both at home and abroad.

School Violence: This video was created as a introduction to a speech on "The Effectiveness of Violence Prevention Programs in Reducing School Violence". In the spring of 1999, the Columbine High School massacre horrified the nation and catapulted the issue of school violence into the national spotlight. Since then, school officials, parents, legislators, psychologists, and law enforcement officials have been scrambling to find solutions to this very serious problem. Many schools have implemented violence prevention programs, which target students' behaviors, attitudes, perceptions, and/or personalities in an effort to reduce aggressive tendencies and foster nonviolent responses to life difficulties. What, exactly, do such programs entail? Are they effective? A comprehensive review of the published empirical literature revealed considerable variation in program design and some evidence of program effectiveness. Surprisingly, few controlled studies have been conducted, and many have been fraught with methodological problems. The implications of these findings for researchers and policy makers are discussed.

Feb 1996 Violence in South Africa is a problem for whites and blacks, at every level of society. Hospitals deal with a constant flow of victims. One man lies on a pillow soaked in blood. Under his bed - a pool of blood. Jessie Duarta, Minister of Safety and Security in the Gauteng Province, claims that the present government is the first to admit to a crime problem. Everyone blames high crime rates on high unemployment. In prison, a young white man says he will turn to crime again if he fails to get a job when he is freed. Police patrol the streets always with a gun in their hand. It is the only way to survive. White middle class families live in high security compounds. There children can play safely in neat gardens behind airy, red brick houses. Professor Eddie Wolff, a specialist in trauma, warns that if the government does not deal effectively with crime, will witness the advent of vigilante groups. People will take the law into their own hands and South Africa will enter another phase of 'traumatisation'

Tough Guise is the first educational video geared toward college and high school students to systematically examine the relationship between pop-cultural imagery and the social construction of masculine identities in the U.S. at the dawn of the 21st century. In this innovative and wide-ranging analysis, Jackson Katz argues that widespread violence in American society, including the tragic school shootings in Littleton, Colorado, Jonesboro, Arkansas, and elsewhere, needs to be understood as part of an ongoing crisis in masculinity. This exciting new media literacy tool-- utilizing racially diverse subject matter and examples-- will enlighten and provoke students (both males and females) to evaluate their own participation in the culture of contemporary masculinity.
