* ABBA had a lot of problems to perform Waterloo in Eurovision.When they arrived to Brighton, London where the Eurovision Song Contest was going to be celebrated, Stig had an interview with an executive of the British music publisher. When he heard the song, he was horrified, and he said they will never have the chance to win.Further, many people bet that Olivia Newton-John was going to win. On the rehearsals, the track where the song was recorded didnt work and a woman from Sweden started to criticize them, because she said that ABBA had stolen pieces of some songs. Anyway, they continued working.When they finished their presentation, people said that they were not going to win because their song was not in their native language, but when they won, everybody had to stop criticizing.ABBA never gave up, thats why they have reached such a great place in the musical world.

*ABBA tuvo muchos problemas para presentar Waterloo en Eurovision.Cuando llegaron a Brighton, Inglaterra donde se llevo a cabo el festival,Stig tuvo una entrevista con un representante de la empresa publicadora de musica en Inglaterra, y él al escuchar la canción, dijo que nunca tendrían la oportunidad de ganar.Todos apostaban que Olivia newton-john iba ganar. Waterloo was recorded in Dec 1973. Abba chose it over Hasta Manana to be the Swedish entry for Eurovision 1974, as it was a happy uptempo rocking song with rhythm and energy, and all the group sing. Stig Anderson took a demo tape on holiday to the Canary Isles. Stig agonised for a week to find the right title, then produced the original Swedish lyrics in a few hours, constructing a story of Waterloo as a metaphor for a girl surrendering to the love of a suitor. The rest is history, it was the first time Sweden had won Eurovision. The song rapidly became a worldwide hit after this huge success in Brighton in April 1974, reaching no. 1 in England on May 4 1974. This tv performance is from November 1974. Lyrics:
