Certain pop stars just don't have the sex appeal to make it on the silver screen. Case in point: Neil Sedaka, the talented songwriter whose extremely high voice (thanks, SCTV) and broadly effeminate demeanor prevented him from becoming the next Elvis (or the next Frankie Avalon, or the next Fabian). This sequence of three scenes comes from the 1968 film (you will swear it's 1963, and it's more than likely pre- the Summer of Love) "Playgirl Killer." The film stars actor William Kerwin, better known to sleaze fans as the star of several early films by the immortal Herschell Gordon Lewis, including the milestone gore pic "Blood Feast." Here Kerwin plays a homicidal artist who gets hired as a handyman by a spoiled rich chick. A side-plot introduces Sedaka, one of the most ineffectual "rock singer" leads in movie history ("I just wanted to help!"). In this scene, a rich bitch taunts Neil, who's engaged to her cutie-pie lil sis.
