Classic Game Room HD reviews DEFENDER for Atari 2600 VCS video computer system. This 1980 arcade smash hit came with some surprising changes to the Atari 2600 including a row of buildings instead of mountains and only one button, but it still has a unique charm and remains highly enjoyable to play today. Defender, which is one of the best arcade video games ever created, is similar in style to a horizontally scrolling space ship shoot-em'-up, or SHMUP. It does not have power ups or mega super hyper weapons or insane bullet hell madness or end bosses, but it does have fun and addictive gameplay. Even on the Atari 2600, which butchered some arcade ports, Defender holds up to hours of gameplay with exciting action and explosions, smart bombs, landers, swarmers and mutants. It is still one of the best titles on the Atari 2600 and this review shows Defender gameplay in all its glory. Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of the PLAYSTATION 2 PS2 VS. ATARI 2600 video computer system VCS. CGRHD takes a close look at the new PS2 Slim model compared to the smaller Atari 2600 Jr. The 2600 Junior (as it was known) was released in 1986 to a public hot for the NES, sadly it never received the recognition that it deserved. So which is better? In this versus console battle to the death these two juggernauts from different video gaming eras compete for the world championship of great video game consoles... right. What is incredible is that in the history of video games, the Atari 2600 was a landmark system that debuted in 1977. The PS2 was released to North America in October of 2000. Both were expensive when they came out, were huge and bulky and had only a few games available. But over time they developed a huge fan following that enjoyed their gameplay and graphics, and had literally thousands of games released for each system. Both the 2600 and Playstation 2 had smaller, more compact models released and both are more affordable today for collectors. Sadly there is no wood grained heavy sixer PS2. If you look up the word "Old School" in the dictionary you'll see a picture of this game. It was made for the legendary Atari 2600 in 1978, way before such things as motorized horseless carriages, World War I and light beer. It was probably made before your parents even met.

The Atari 7800 Pro System was a masterful gaming console that was officially released in the mid 80's to an un-appreciative market. It failed to sell, even though it was awesome and played Atari 2600 game cartridges as well as Atari 7800 games. This amazing collection has dozens of Atari 2600 classic video games, as well as a number of arcade classics, all on one disc like Missile Command, Yars' Revenge, Swordquest Waterworld and Space War! The games play out in fabulous 1080i HDTV graphics and look better than they did on the Atari 2600 (although in many cases that may not be a good thing, but this is emulation and these are emulated Atari 2600 games and they still rock!) Atari Anthology is also available for the Playstation 2 PS2 video game system although CGRHD has not reviewed that version. Classic Game Room was the first classic video game review show on the internet. Broadcast online from 1999-2000, they were canned in the dot-com bust. The world weeped. Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of TOWERING INFERNO by US Games for the Atari 2600 VCS video computer system. The 1970's were a great time for disaster movies like Earthquake, Poseidon Adventure, The Swarm, Airport and The Towering Inferno. This game lets you live out the dream of being the hero in a 70's action film by playing as a fireman (played by Steve McQueen in the movie) and saving innocent civilians in a burning skyscraper. Towering inferno was released in the early 80's and is an excellent arcade style retrol old school game on the Atari 2600 console. The gameplay is fast and enjoyable, required skill and a bit of chance. It has flames and helicopters and 9 buildings to save people from. CGRHD highly recommends Towering Inferno! The 1974 movie starring Steve McQueen, Paul Newman and Robert Vaughn, Fred Astaire and Robert Wagner was awesome too. The designers of modern movie themed games and ports on the PS3 and Xbox 360 can learn a lot from TI, because this game is dope. It ain't Backdraft, this is TOWERING INFERNO!!! Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of YARS' REVENGE for the Atari 2600 VCS video game console system! This is the best selling original title on the wood grained classic video game masterpiece and rightly so, revenge has never had it so good. This 2600 cartridge came with an awesome comic book called the Qotile Ultimatum and you played as a crazy insect called a Yar which flies around space and shoots laser beams and stuff. Yar's Revenge is a true classic retro arcade style old school video game from 1981 that never gets old and hasn't aged a day. This is priceless video gaming for those of us who grew up with Atari and should be exciting for new gamers today used to the next gen systems. Yars Revenge has incredible gameplay and the footage shows this. It is fun, entertaining and above all terribly addictive. Shoot the Zorlon cannon at the Qotile! CGRHD takes a somewhat more serious look at this cartridge that should be in every Atari collector's possession. The ultimate space action mutant insect warfare shooter game. This would be really great if they released it again on the PS3 or Xbox Live Arcade XBLA consoles with updated 2D graphics (not 3D). I still think Yars' Revenge would make a great movie or anime.
